Youths Protest Nasarawa Gov's Impeachment notice

News: Youths yesterday blocked major roads in Lafia, Nasarawa State capital, protest­ing the impeachment notice against Governor Umaru Tanko Al-makura, who is facing charges of gross mis­conduct by the state House of Assembly. It took the intervention of soldiers, police and other secu­rity agents before the situation was put under control. There was tension in Lafia as most of the traders in old Lafia mar­ket, along Doma road locked their shops for fear of attack by hoodlums. The embattled governor, Umaru Tanko Al-makura, left Lafia on Tuesday evening for Abuja in order to save his job as contacts were established through traditional rulers from the state to meet with President Goodluck Jon­athan over the issue. Investigation re­vealed that the youths were supposed to carry out their protest on Tuesday, but later postponed it to Wednes­day. Police Public Relations Of­ficer (PPRO), Nasarawa State Police Command, Umar Nu­man could not be reached on phone to confirm the situation. Meanwhile, people were going about their normal businesses in some parts of Lafia as security agents were seen patrolling major streets in Lafia. In the same vein, women in their thousands were seen moving along major streets in Lafia protesting the alleged impeachment move on governor Al-makura, although none of them volunteered to talk to journalists, they ex­pressed their grievances with members of the Assembly, whom they accused of plot­ting to remove the governor from office despite his won­derful performances within three years in office.

Press Release: In a bid to actualize the full objective of the Employees' Compensation Scheme, ECS, Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund, NSITF is repositioning the agency in line with the provision of the Act establishing it. NSITF board chairman, Dr. Ngozi Olejeme explains that in order to actualize the agency's mandate, it is restructuring the organization and also re-engineering its current workforce to reflect the objective of the Scheme. Olejeme hinted that the efforts to reposition NSITF was in pursuance of the transformation agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan and that no stone will be left unturned to ensure that the agency measures up to global standards. She also affirmed that the agency will not succumb to blackmail and will not be distracted in its efforts to achieve its core mandate. NSITF applies very strict employment policy, which has earned accolades from several organizations particularly by the Federal Character Commission. The federal character commission recently adjudged NSITF as one of the most transparent and most equitable government agencies in Nigeria. Meanwhile, the attention of the NSITF has been drawn to the fraudulent activities of some scammers using the internet and other social media platforms to swindle innocent job seekers, with promises of fake job vacancies in the agency. NSITF in a statement frowned at this act and dissociates itself from the activities of the scammers, the agency also warned the public to disregard individuals requesting for monies or any form of gratification in exchange for job opportunities in the agency,insisting that it employs strictly based on competence.

Nyanya Bomb blast suspect arrested and brought back from Sudan

News: After months of diplomatic discussions between Nigeria and Republic of Sudan, the co-mastermind of the April 14, 2014 Nyanya bus terminus bombing in which scored died and hundreds wounded, Aminu Ogwuche, was yesterday, extradited from Sudan to Nigeria. The terror fugitive was declared wanted by INTERPOL, following intelligence reports linking him and another fugitive, Abubakar Tsiga, who is still at large, to the deadly bomb blast. Ogwuche, an army deserter, who took refuge in Sudan after the incident, arrived the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja at about 3p.m. Local time on 15th July,2014 via Nigeria Presidential flight from Khartoum was received by the spokespersons of the police, ACP Frank Mba, Department of State Services (DSS), Marilyn Ogar, Defence, Maj.-Gen. Chris Olukolade and coordinator, National Information Centre, NIC, Mike Omeri. According to the NIC coordinator, who briefed journalists on the delay in Ogwuche’s extradition, said it was due to diplomatic processes. Omeri added that Ogwuche would be interrogated and prosecuted. “We have just successfully been able to secure his extradition from Sudan and he is back to his home country to answer questions. “Of course, the usual procedure will take place, he will be interrogated appropriately and charged to court when all the processes are concluded”. Ogwuche was handed over to the Nigeria Police Interpol Unit, who led him into an 18-seater Toyota bus and whisked away. Meanwhile, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP MD Abubakar, while commending the personnel of the Nigeria Police Interpol Unit for a job well done, noted that the successful repatriation of the Ogwuche to Nigeria shows that the international coalition against terrorism championed by Nigeria is beginning to yield the desired result. Pro-Ameachi Lawmakers defect to APC

News: Members of the Rivers State House of Assembly loyal to the state governor, Mr. Rotimi Ameachi have declared their formal defection from Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressive Congress (APC). Leader of the Assembly, Chidi Lloyd who made the announcement on the floor of the House at old government house auditorium said he has the mandate of the twenty five Pro- Amaechi lawmakers to make the declaration. Mr Chidi Lloyd said henceforth any correspondence to them should be addressed APC and not PDP. Speaker Otelemaba Amachree while responding to the announcement insisted that a formal letter by the Lawmakers should get to him before Friday this week. In an interview with members of Assembly press corp, Deputy Speaker Leyii Kwanee said their decision was informed by the fact that they have been without a party since their suspension by PDP over a year ago. Hon. Kwanee who said the PDP has remained adamant in their matter maintained that there is no going back on their decision.

Nyako Impeached!

News: Adamawa state governor, Murtala Nyako, has been impeached by the Adamawa State House of Assembly, while his deputy, James Ngilari voluntarily resigned before the house could impeach him along with Nyako. Ngilari resignation was accepted by the House members. It was gathered that Nyako is heading to court to challenge the impeachment, as he has gathered team of seasoned lawyers added to the ones recruited by his party, All Progressive Congress (APC) to pursue the case. The Speaker of the State House of Assembly has been sworn-in as Acting Governor, while the Deputy speaker is now Acting speaker. The State capital, Yola is said to be calm, but a bit anxiety followed the development.
