Update: Jos Explosion

News

An explosion has been reported along Bauchi Road in Jos, the capital city of Plateau State in what appears to be suicide attack targeting a viewing centre where patrons are watching the UEFA Champions League final match between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.

Eyewitnesses said that the blast occurred at about 9.30pm local time near a busy television viewing centre located close to the University of Jos main campus.

It was also said that the suicide bomber died in the blast alongside some other persons.

The Plateau State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Chris Olakpe said the blast killed three persons including the lone bomber.

The Police Commissioner added that the bomber who was inside a vehicle detonated the bomb before he reached the viewing centre presumably out of fear because of the presence of security operatives and the number of youths watching the sensational soccer match up.

“I can confirm to you that three people were killed and three others were wounded. The dead included the lone bomber.

“The injured included one Alhaji Bello and his son, the owner of the house in front of where the bomb went off. They have been taken to the hospital for treatment,” he said.

Meanwhile, Governor Jonah David Jang has urged residents of the state to remain courageous and have faith that the war on terrorism will be won soon.

Jang stated this in a statement signed by his Director of Press, James Mannok in reaction to the incident.

He regretted that this attack, coming barely four days after a similar one is a calculated attempt to disrupt the peace and normalcy, which has since returned to the state.

While sympathising with the victims, the Governor urged the security agencies to ensure the perpetrators and sponsors are tracked down.
I
t will be recalled that two bomb explosions around a train station and a busy market killed about 118 persons in Jos metropolis about a week ago.

Abduction of over 200 Chibok School Girls

Feature/Article

By, ‘Tunde Andrew

When the news of the abduction of over 200 female students of Government Girls College, Chibok, Borno State filtered into the air on 15th of April, 2014, so many people wondered how it can happen with the state of emergency currently going on in three states of the north-east of the country (Nigeria), namely: Borno, Adamawa and Yobe States respectively.

I wondered how can those female students be taken from their  school pass through the roads with the  trucks  with all the road blocks without being  noticed by the security personnel drafted to that region to protect lives and property of Nigerian citizens living in that region.

Few days later, the military through his spokesperson, Major General Chris Olukolade told the entire world that the abducted girls have been rescued. Hours later, the school principal and parents of the abducted girls faulted the military claims and said that over 200 girls are still in Boko Haram’s den in the Sambisa forest.

The questions are: why will the military deceive the whole world that the kidnapped girls have been rescued?
Where did the trucks that took the girls away into the Sambisa forest pass with the state of emergency in place and security check points all over?

We demand answers to these questions.

Barely one month that the school girls have been taken to unknown destination by members of the Boko Haram, the government has not traced or has a clue to the where about of the girls.

The only information from the government is that, they will find the girls soon and return them back home.

This is an assurance from the government but, how soon will this be? We don’t know.

What effort is the government putting in place to bring back these girls who are future mothers in our nation?
I wonder the kind of psychical trauma these girls and their parents must have passing through since the abduction of these girls took place on the 15th of April, 2014.

The where about of the over 200 girls must be located sooner than later.

Whether those girls are in the Sambisa forest in the North-East of Nigeria or in Cameroun, what we want the government to do is that, the government should as matter of urgency, rescue and reunite the girls with their loved ones.

No girl child in Nigeria or any other parts of the world should be denied education.

Even the Boko Haram sect cannot stop the girl child education in northern Nigeria or any other parts of Nigeria.

The government should do everything possible within it powers to bring back the over 200 Government Girls College, of Chibok.
